Preproduction BMW X7 Rolls off the Line

BMW unveiled two concepts in November at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, and one of them already has started production. Today, the automaker published a teaser image of the new X7 SUV, announcing that the first preproduction versions of the model are being made in BMW's Spartanburg, S.C., plant.

When we saw the X7 at the auto show, BMW said its styling was 70 to 80 percent complete, though it's hard to tell much from the camouflaged front-end image shown today. Other details — like its powertrain — are still under wraps, but the concept version, the X7 iPerformance, is a plug-in hybrid SUV that pairs a twin-turbocharged Used Engine with an electric motor.

What we do know is that the production X7 will be a three-row SUV, and BMW plans to export it globally. BMW says we can expect to see more of the X7 when it debuts at the end of 2018. Stay tuned for more.
