2018 BMW M2

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 3,200 model-year 2018 BMW 230i, 230i xDrive, M2, M240i and M240i xDrive sedans, and X3 xDrive 30i SUVs

The Problem: An error in the software for the instrument panel may cause the display to not properly illuminate, which may not illuminate various control and warning symbols while driving or during startup, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will update the instrument cluster display software for free.

What Owners Should Do: BMW will begin notifying owners Jan. 8, 2018. Owners can call the automaker at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
