2018 Honda Pilot Gets Price Bump, Not Much Else

2018 Honda Pilot

Honda's Pilot three-row SUV will see a modest increase in price for the 2018 model year despite no real updates. Pricing for a base LX model with front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission starts at $31,875, including a $975 destination charge — an increase of $155 over an identical 2017 model.

A top-of-the-line Elite model with all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission starts at $48,445, up $250 over the 2017 version. All Pilot models are powered by the same 3.5-liter V-6 Used Engine .

We recently compared the Pilot to some of its chief rivals, including the 2017 Toyota Highlander, 2018 Volkswagen Atlas and 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. These can be powered by either a four-cylinder Used Engine — turbocharged in the case of the Atlas and Traverse — or a V-6. The turbocharged four-cylinder in the Traverse is only available on the RS model, a mid-level "sporty" trim, while on the Atlas it can power a base S model.

The Highlander begins at $31,625, including a $995 destination charge, for a front-wheel-drive model powered by a four-cylinder Used Engine , while upgrading to a V-6 powerplant will cost $33,675. The Atlas with front-wheel drive and the turbocharged four-cylinder will set buyers back $31,425, including a destination charge of $925, while a V-6-powered model starts at $32,825. The Traverse starts at $30,925, including a $995 destination charge.

That makes the Pilot competitively priced with the two rivals that have surpassed it in our eyes, and a relative bargain over a vehicle we find comparatively lacking. The chief options for the Pilot are all-wheel drive, at $1,900, and the Honda Sensing suite of safety features, an extra $1,000. Honda Sensing is standard on Touring and Elite trim levels, and all-wheel drive is standard on Elite models. Moreover, on EX-L models, navigation adds $1,000 and an available rear entertainment system adds $1,600.

Here's a breakdown of the starting prices by trim level for the 2018 Honda Pilot (all prices include destination):

  • LX: $31,875
  • EX: $34,305
  • EX-L: $37,735
  • Touring: $42,945
  • Elite: $48,445
