We already know the Phantom, Rolls-Royce's new land yacht, will be big and cost about as much as a 19-carat diamond ring, and now we know when we'll be able to drool all over it ... er, I mean, get a closer look at it in the pursuit of automotive journalism. The 2018 Phantom super-luxury sedan will make its North American debut in Detroit at January's 2018 North American International Auto Show.

For 2018, the Phantom wears its predecessor's upright aesthetic that features a flat beltline from nose to stern, but the nose has even shorter overhangs and the overall profile is more sweeping and fluid. Highlights of its interior opulence include rear-hinged doors with available window curtains, champagne flutes, Eames lounge-chair-inspired wood paneling on the back of the front seats and a starlight headliner.

Outrageousness continues under the hood. Power comes from a new 6.75-liter V-12 with twin turbochargers to make 563 horsepower and 664 pounds-feet of torque, up a lot over 2017's naturally aspirated V-12 that was good for 453 hp and 531 pounds-feet.

The new Phantom will be a part of The Gallery, what the auto show says is a $10 million collection "of the most acclaimed automobiles in the world." The Gallery will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. in Detroit's Cobo Center Atrium. Tickets are $250 per person (21 and older only).
