Nissan today unveiled a new top trim level for the Armada full-size SUV at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. The new Armada Platinum Reserve slots in above the already-tony Platinum model and dials up the luxurious appointments even more.

Outside, some dark-chrome trim on the grille, door handles and sideview mirrors is present, as are standard 20-inch dark-chrome-painted aluminum-alloy wheels. Inside, the truck gets more luxurious with two-tone leather seats with quilted inserts and unique stitching; a Black Quartz and premium "wood-tone" interior trim treatment for the dash, doors and center console; and a "Platinum Reserve" moniker embossed onto the center-console leather trim.
The new trim level doesn't come cheap — it's pretty much fully loaded and then some, and will start at $62,985 (including a hefty $1,295 destination fee) for a two-wheel-drive model and $65,885 for a four-wheel-drive version. That's a jump of $3,000 from the 2018 Platinum model to the Platinum Reserve — on top of the $1,100 jump in price that the Platinum models themselves saw from the 2017 to 2018 model year.
In case you're interested, a 2017 Infiniti QX80 4x2 starts at $64,845, including destination, so there is still a bit of a price gap between the Infiniti and Nissan models. Mechanically, there's less to differentiate them, however — they share a body and many of the interior bits. With a new, super-luxurious, leather-swathed interior available on the Nissan and exterior styling that's arguably far better looking, Infiniti will really have to up its game to keep the QX80 relevant.
