4.8 Million Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram Vehicles: Recall Alert

2016 jeep cherokee

approximately 4.8 million model-year 2014-18 chrysler 300 sedans, dodge charger sedans and journey and durango suvs, ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, ram 3500 (more than 10,000 pounds), 4500 and 5500 cab-chassis trucks, and jeep cherokee and grand cherokee suvs; model-year 2014-19 ram 1500 pickups; model-year 2015-18 dodge challenger sedans; model-year 2015-17 chrysler 200 sedans; model-year 2016-18 ram 3500 (less than 10,000 pounds) cab-chassis trucks; model-year 2017-18 chrysler pacifica minivans; and model-year 2018 jeep wrangler suvs; the recall is limited to vehicles with automatic transmissions and gas used engine .

the problem: if, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating, increasing the risk of a crash.

the fix: dealers will inspect the software and perform a software flash on the used engine or powertrain control module for free.

what owners should do: chrysler, dodge, jeep and ram manufacturer fiat chrysler automobiles will begin notifying owners july 6. until then, fca is advising owners to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. in the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped. that will cancel cruise control. owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403, the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
